Blues have a Tough Five Days

Injuries and suspensions costly for Blues

Injuries have caught up to the Blues this past week. The Blues playing short handed because of injuries in Glanbrook on Wednesday night found themselves in a tight battle with the first place Rangers. It was a fast paced game with the Blues coming out on the short end loosing 6-4 in a game that could have gone either way. To make it worse the Blues lost two more players in that game with suspensions for fighting.

The next night at Chedoke Arena on the Olympic ice surface where the Blues have been playing their home games the bench became shorter. Hagersville Hawks came with a full bench and the Blues started the game with 9 forwards and four defencemen, with one being a forward moved back.  If it wasn’t for bad luck the Blues wouldn’t have any luck, as they lost another defenceman with a concussion early in the game. The Hawks skated to a 4-2 win over the exhausted Blues.

A few days off and the Blues hoping to get a few players back found themselves playing short again at home on Sunday afternoon.  Short six player, 3 defence and and 3 forwards it didn’t take long for the Blues to run out of gas loosing 9-5 to the Niagara Riverhawks. It was a tough five days for the team.

Assistant coach Brian Edwards said, “its tough we are missing some key players, you cant take our captain Jamison Buck our leader on defence, forwards Scotty McLaren and Stephen Bell two of the top forwards out of the line up, it leaves a huge hole. Then we have a few players suspended and sickness hit a couple.  We just have to get healthy and get through this.”

The Blues are hoping to get a few players back before they host the Grimsby PeachKings on Thursday night at Chedoke Arena. Game time is 7pm.
